Understanding Commissions: From Deal Won to Payout

The Commission Lifecycle
1. Rule Definition
A manager creates a commission rule specifying:
- What triggers it (e.g., Deal Won)
- The rate (e.g., 5% of deal value)
- Who it applies to (e.g., all Sales Reps)
2. Trigger Event
When a trigger event occurs (deal won, invoice paid, etc.), the system automatically:
- Checks all active commission rules
- Finds rules matching the entity type and trigger
- Verifies the user's role matches the rule's role filter (if set)
3. Commission Creation
For each matching rule:
- Without splits: 100% of the commission goes to the entity owner
- With splits: Each split member gets their share (e.g., 60% to rep, 40% to manager)
Example:
- Deal value: 100,000,000 VND
- Commission rate: 5%
- Base commission: 5,000,000 VND
- If split 60/40: Rep gets 3,000,000, Manager gets 2,000,000
4. Status Tracking
Commission records move through statuses:
- Pending: Commission is calculated but awaiting approval
- Earned: Commission is confirmed and approved
- Paid Out: Commission has been paid to the team member
- Cancelled: Commission was voided
5. Payout
A manager clicks "Mark Paid Out" on an earned commission record to record the payment date and change status to "Paid Out."
Viewing Commissions
- My Commissions: See your own commission records and totals
- Team tab: Managers see all team members' commissions
- Time filters: View by Week, Month, Quarter, or Year
- Export: Download commission data as CSV/XLSX
Key Relationships
- Commission Rules → define HOW commissions are calculated
- Commission Records → individual commission entries created by rules
- Split Records → define HOW to divide a deal's commission among team members
