How To: Convert a Lead to a Contact

Goal

Convert a qualified lead into a contact so you can start creating deals and opportunities.

Steps

Step 1: Review the Lead

  1. Go to Leads in the sidebar
  2. Click on the lead you want to convert
  3. Review their information, activity history, and engagement level

Step 2: Qualify the Lead

Before converting, ensure the lead is qualified:

  • Is there a real business need?
  • Do they have the budget?
  • Are they the decision maker?
  • Is there a timeline?

Update the lead status to reflect their qualification level.

Step 3: Convert

  1. On the lead's detail page, click "Convert to Contact"
  2. KeenCRM will:
  3. Create a new contact with the lead's information
  4. Optionally create a company if one was specified
  5. Preserve all activity history
  6. Update the lead status to "Converted"
  7. The new contact is now available in the Contacts module

Step 4: Create a Deal

After conversion:

  1. Go to the new contact's page
  2. You can now create deals, quotes, and other records linked to this contact

Lead Status Flow

New → Contacted → Qualified → Converted (or Lost)

Tips

  • Don't convert leads too early — use the lead stages to nurture first
  • All activities logged on the lead carry over to the contact
  • The original lead record remains for reference but is marked as "Converted"
